Making groups of ten

At the moment the Hexagons are learning to make groups of tidy tens to help when adding lots of numbers together.
Here is a little video to remind yourself of how to group the numbers using tens frames, and of how to show your working. Use this video to help you when you get a little stuck. Remember being able to explain your strategy is just as important as being able to get the correct answer!

Class Award

On Friday we received the class award. Mrs Anderson had been very impressed with the way we are using our blog to share our learning particuarly with the Maori Phrase of the Week. Each week we come back to class, practice it together. Write the Te Reo Maori and English version of the phrase in our Te Reo books and then take turns at having buddies video it for our blog. We have had lots of people view our videos and it is great to have an audience to practice this second language with.

Waitomo Caves

Room 11 and the Middle Syndicate visited the Glow-worm Cave in Waitomo on Tuesday we then headed to the discovery centre and onto the Ruakaui bush walk. We had a great day seeing all of these amazing parts of New Zealand with our own eyes. Coming out of the Glow-worm Cave we took a boat trip seeing loads of glow-worms. Did you know that glow-worms can only be found in New Zealand and four states in Australia?

Waitomo tour

On Tuesday we were lucky enough to tour through the ancient Waitomo Caves. Check out this video to remind yourself of what you saw and then have a go at answering these questions.
1) When were the caves discovered (found)?
2) Where can you find stalagmites and stalactites?
3) The man in the video's highlight (favourite part) was the boat trip. What was yours and why?
4) Tell me one thing you learnt from our trip.

Pre ideas about caves-our questions before the trip

Doubles Song

We have also been learning our doubles so that we can quickly give the answer. This song will help us remember our tricky doubles so that we can add other numbers like 8+9 using our doubles; eg: 8+8=16 plus one more because it asked for 9=17.
